Book Review: Silent Creed by Alex Kava, a powerful testament to the work of rescue dogs and their handlers

Silent Creed by Alex Kava (Release Date 5th Jan 2016)
I've read and loved all lot of Alex Kava’s Maggie O’Dell series and now the second book in the Ryder Creed series Silent
Creed is out - Yeah!  In the Ryder Creed series we see O’Dell, an FBI agent united with Ryder Creed a canine rescue operative … and I’m hooked.

In Silent Creed an old colleague of Ryder’s pulls in a favour resulting in Ryder and his exceptionally talented recovery dog BOLO attending a landslide in Carolina. What Ryder doesn’t realise is that under the resulting mudslide lies a Military funded research facility.

When two murdered bodies are recovered from the debris, Maggie is enlisted to oversee the recovery operation and it soon becomes clear that things are not as they should be.
Silent Creed is, I think, a fitting tribute to the intelligence, loyalty and bravery of these specially trained dogs.  I for one have fallen in love with the inspirational Grace whose devotion to creed is touching.  BOLO comes in at a very close second, for me but only because his enthusiasm slightly frightens me.

Silent Creed has extended my knowledge of the function and range of abilities the dogs have in a really accessible way.  It also throws up queries over the ethical decisions
made by our representatives at Government level and questions the sense of their actions.  Kava links the stories of soldiers fighting for governmental help after suffering illness, due to being subjected to chemical testing without their knowledge, with the dangers of poorly regulated research facilities.

Kava writes damn good stories which highlight important issue in a passionate and exciting way and Silent Creed is up there with her best.  Her characters arouse real emotion in the reader.  The twists and turns of the plot make Silent Creed an exciting read.  Strongly recommended for fans of political thrillers as well as those who like FBI stories.
