Book review: Little Black Lies by Sharon Bolton. This book is phenomenal! Full of atmosphere, dark, chilling and gut wrenching!

Little Black Lies takes the psychological thriller onto a whole new level.  As well as a dynamic and heart wrenching tragic central story line Bolton  delivers an empathetic and convincing portrayal of the historic events of the Falkland War as well as its' legacy among the close Island community. .

Set in 1994, 12 years after the Falkland Islands War,
tragically bereaved mother Catrin Quinn is in despair, her two young boy's dead by her best friends negligence, her marriage in tatters and her soul tortured.  Then a little boy goes missing form the island, the third in as many years and slowly the close knit community comes to suspect they have a child killer in their midst.  Catrin unable to continue in her grief and unable to forgive documents a momentous decision, one that will change her life forever.
Written with the aftermath of The Falklands war resonating through the story, Bolton portrays an Island community existing alert to possible Argentinian threats whilst stoically getting on with their isolated lives.  Bolton effortlessly transports us from the harsh unforgiving and unfamiliar terrain of the Para's march to Goose Green to the vibrant eco centre of wildlife
conservation with its' Penguins, Cormorants , Whales and more.  Her portrayal of the Island's nature is uncompromising and unromantic.  She deftly illustrates the beauty alongside the harshness of Mother Nature. With a series of nice twists towards the end you'll be kept riveted right until the final twist in the last page!
That Bolton manages to honour lives lost during the conflict whilst celebrating the
determination of the Falklander's themselves and telling a damn good story is an absolute triumph. I was riveted from page one and cannot recommend Little Black Lies highly enough.
