Book Review: Candy from a Stranger by Daryl Buckner, chillingly, refreshingly, emotionally raw!

Told from the point of view of a bereaved father Candy From A Stranger is a chilling commentary on a father's desperate attempt to find his young son's abducter.  Faced by unmotivated detectives,  his own grief, a growing dependance on alcohol and the breakdown of his marriage Ben Cain recognises similarities between his son's abduction a year earlier and a current abduction in a small Texas town nearby.

Ben knows his son is dead, but until his killer is caught Ben
can have no closure.  He painstakingly, against Police advice, pieces together links between his son's abduction and other's in the area.  Driven by desperation and the desire to save other young boys Ben slowly picks apart the life of an insane serial killer.
Candy from A Stranger is heartbreakingly honest, full of grief and anger.  Ben's torment is palpable and Buckner deserves huge Kudos for taking on such a narrator and delivering all this raw emotion so believably.  Candy From A Stranger is compellingly chilling, Ben's desperation beautifully exposed
and there's some great twists and turns thrown in for good measure.  The ending was visceral but immensely satisfying.
