Book Review: A Whisper of Sorrows by J.D.Kirk

Available here
I've read all of J D Kirks Jack Logan books and throughly enjoyed all of them. However, A Whisper of Sorrows is, in my opinion, the best yet. In this we see the return of Mr Whisper and let me reassure you, you are in for a real treat with this one.
Blurb
The hunter has become the hunted.
Ten years ago, DCI Jack Logan caught the twisted child killer known as Mister Whisper.
Two days ago, Mister Whisper escaped.
Now, Jack must track down the most ruthless enemy he has ever faced before he can strike again. But, after ten years behind bars, it isn't just murder that Mister Whisper has in mind.
It's revenge.
A Whisper of Sorrows is the sixth book in the DCI Jack Logan crime thriller series, all based in the Highlands of Scotland, and perfect for fans of Tartan Noir crime fiction.

My Thoughts

Well, when I finished The Last Bloody Straw, I was a wee bit peeved as it left with such a great cliffhanger and I thought I was going to have to wait for ages for the next one. Thankfully, A Whisper of Sorrows was released very soon after and I was able to dig right in.
Where The Last Bloody Straw was full of Scottish dark humour, A Whisper of Sorrows, although not totally bereft of humour, is much more gritty and insidious.
DCI Logan's Nemesis Mr Whisper has escaped his psychiatric facility in Carstairs and whilst leaving clues leading Logan to him, Kack is well aware that Mr Whisper is out for revenge and with his track record of violence it wasn't going to be pretty.
With his friends and family at risk Logan becomes more and more desperate to find Mr Whisper, but other distractions like the murder of an unidentified man and the personal message from Mr Whisper that Logan is keeping secret, serve to distratc him.
As the threats increase, Logan has no option but to push forward.
A Whisper of Sorrows gets more and more tense with each page turned. It is breathtakingly sinister and nerve racking. I particularly liked the pressure Kirk puts on his main character - it pushes DCI Logan well past his comfrot zone and makes the team become unnerved.
Logan's team are fantastically characterised, each with their own very distinctive personalities and qualities and it is this team element that smooths off some of Logan's rougher edges.
I have no hesitation in giving A Whisper of Sorrows a belting FIVE STARS!
When's the next one out?
