Book Review: The Last Widow by Karin Slaughter

I love the Will Trent/Sara Linton series, but every time I open up a new one I panic a little, in case I'm disapppointed . But WOW! The Last Widow is explosively addictive and I flew through it at a rate of knots. In fact I think the pages just turned themselves.
Here's the Blurb

She might be the first victim, but she won’t be the last.

Three… A woman is abducted in front of her child.
Two… A month later, a second is taken in explosive circumstances.
One… But the web is bigger and darker than anyone could imagine.
The clock is ticking to uncover the truth.
My Thoughts
The relationship between Will and Sara is sharper, more poignant and infinately more compulsive than before - a real marked development here which was sooooo satisfying.
When Sara is snatched by an extremist right wing group who have a complex and deadly agenda that will result in many deaths, she needs all of her ingenuity to survive. Meanwhile, Will's worst nightmare has become a reality and despite serious injury, he is determined to bring Sara home.
The range of characters is fascinating and Slaughter comes into her own in making each so very indivual from the acerbic, Amanda to the loyal, yet feisty Faith who is juggling motherhood with her job and from Sara's over-protective mum to her loyal, effusive sister.
As for the bad guys ... well they're a real varied, stomach- churning myriad of badness. From the too smooth, too perfect Dash to the raw, visceral cruelty of his colleagues, these baddies are written in a way that leaves no doubt of the extent their evil will allow them to go.
With weapons and motives and careful planning this group may be the most dangerous Will Trent and Sara Linton have veer come across.
Fast paced, nuanced and threatening, The Last Widow is shocking in parts, unfortunately very believable and the truth this story speaks is particularly poignant in the current climate.
An easy 5* from me.
Also Watch out for my review of the next Trent/Linton novel The Silent Wife over the next few weeks
