A Trio of Young Adult/ Teen Fiction crimey reads for the summer! The Original Ginny Moon by Benjamin Ludwig, Crazy House by James Patterson and the Revenge by Hannah Jayne
It's been a while since I did a Young Adult/ Teen fiction round up but here's my latest offering just in time for the summer holidays. I've chosen three very different books this time. the firs is called The Original Ginny Moon and is a mystery/suspense with a difference. Crazy House by James Patterson is a Dystopian action packed read similar to Hunger games or Divergent and The Revenge is a psychological thriller exploring the consequences of seeking revenge.
The Original Ginny Moon by Benjamin Ludwig (June 2017) is a haunting
tale of an autistic girl (Ginny Moon) who was taking from her abusive mother when she was nine and after a series of unsuccessful foster homes she settles with her 'Forever parents'. Then an unexpected event triggers Ginny to remember something she left behind with her birth mother ... something she is determined to find because she is the only one who can take care of it. this leads to a series of miscommunications between Ginny and her 'Forever parents' and her social worker. This is a poignant and beautiful read that exposes the challenges of living with an autistic child whilst celebrating the beauty and diverse thinking they bring to the world. I loved this!
The Revenge by Hannah Jayne (July 2017)
What happens when you're going out with the smartest, most beautiful, most privileged girl in the school and then you realise you don't like her superficiality and dump her? Well first she disses you in front of all your friends and makes you a laughing stock... so what do you do then? Well that's when you take extreme measures that set a whole other set of things in motion and when this girl disappears you don't know what to do.
The Revenge explores the concept of relationships gone wrong and the idea that an impulsive action can lead to disastrous and life-threatening events. The Revenge explores the glitzy world of small town celebrity and offsets it against genuine hurt and fear and human emotion and in and among that Hannah Jayne slips in a few well placed twists to keep us on our toes. A great read!
Crazy House by James Patterson (May 2017)
Twins Carrie and Becca are completely different. Becca is fiery and out of control, Cassie is an A* student, reliable and focused. However, with their mother taken away for a 'mood-adjustment' and their father attempting to commit suicide the girls are vulnerable and struggling to upkeep their farm on their own. then Becca goes missing and Cassie searched high and low for her twin only to discover that The Cell (town) they live in is not what it seems and neither are the people who live there. This is a Dystopian novel that explores strength and acceptance and love and dedication. It is thrilling and disturbing in equal measure. I must say i enjoyed this more than some of James Patterson's recent adult novels. An excellent read!
