Choked by Tania Carver

This the fourth book in the Esposito/Brennan series sees a slight change in the feel of the books.  Perhaps this is due top the fact that the plot is so personal to Marina Esposito who, whilst husband Phil is in a coma, has to track down her kidnapped daughter without the aid of the police.  The plot is, as usual, well woven and intricate enough to keep the reader guessing the full truth. As we’ve now come to expect, Carver includes her usual threateningly deranged amoral killer in the form of ‘Golem’ and also manages to throw in a couple of extra deranged characters for good measure.  The book leads us into the seedy world of bare knuckle fighting, corporate deceit, sado- masochism and incest.
The absence of Phil throughout the majority of the book, gives Carver the opportunity to develop  Espositos character and are introduced to her brother , a bare knuckle fighter, who I’m sure will appear again in the future.
Despite missing Phil’s presence in the book I enjoyed it thoroughly and would recommend it..  However I’m looking forward to the release of the next Carver novel A Doll’s House when we will see Phils return.
