TV: The January blues don't bother me with this trio of crime drams to watch!

It's that time of year when after the excitement of Christmas things feel a bit flat.  Combine that with the dark nights and drab weather and January could be the worst month. However, don't despair because there are some brilliant crime drama to curl up and watch and the bonus is they all have strong female protagonists.

No Offence (Channel 4 Wednesdays at 9 pm)
Set in Manchester we see DI Viv Deering , skilfully played by
Joanna Scanlan pitted against a criminal matriarch.  This cast of exceptional female leads is an absolute joy to behold. No Offence transports you from gritty action packed drama to full on belly laughs in seconds.  Deering is a wonderful character , supported by her detectives Dinah Kowalska (Elaine Cassidy), a serious ball busting detective and Joy Freers whose comic timing is amazing.  This series is as good, if not better than series one.  This is not to be missed.  Catch a sneaky preview below.

Unforgotten (ITV Thursdays 9pm)

Nicola Walker's character Cassie Stuart is sensitive, caring dogged and focussed.  As head of a cold case unit, Casie Stuart is called i to solve the twenty year old murder of a husband an father,.  The plotting in this series is second to none.  The reader sees the lives of the various characters slowly converge to meet at the junction where all them meet the victim.  The suspense of wondering which of the different characters is responsible for his death is palpable.  Walker plays Cassie in an understated way that makes the cold case all the more poignant.    Sanjeev Bhaskar is a worthy side kick to Cassie and the pair make for a very convincing detective team.  Again you won't catch me missing this one!

Silent Witness (BBC1 Mons& Tues 9pm)
Even after 12 years this series can give you a run for your
money.  The plots are topical and sensitively delivered without skirting the issues.  Emilia Fox as Nikki and Liz Carr as Clarissa have developed a lovely chemistry that is understated yet very humorous. Fox as the  the straight talking pathologist with a very strong moral compass pays her role with passion and compassion.  I for one won't be missing any of this series.
So go on January do your worst and ... Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow
