Book Review: Last Resort by Quintin Jardine The latest Bob Skinner due for release tomorrow 9th April 2015

Last Resort is the 25th book in the Bob Skinner series and is as unputdownable as the first one was.  I believe in leading a jet setting life through my reading and in Last resort I got that for it takes us from Gullane in Scotland to L'Escala, Madrid and Barcelona and back to Edinburgh Perth and Glasgow with a wee stopover in the ski slopes of Andorra... not a bad round trip in anyone's book!

In Last resort Skinner is in crisis. The Introduction of Police Scotland, the failure of his marriage and uncertainty for the future leave our irascible hero in turmoil... that
L'escala
is until he goes to L'Escala , discovers he's being stalked and becomes embroiled in a favour for a friend resulting in Skinner becoming hands on in an investigation involving murder and corruption in the world of
Glasgow
journalism and a race against time to save lives.  Meanwhile his personal life  back in Scotland seems set to erupt into the media if his daughter Alex can't stop it first.
Ski slopes Andorra
Jardine's skinner books are enduring and as fresh as ever with Jardine embracing changes to Scottish policing to allow his character to evolve once more with the promise of more Bob Skinner's to come.  A hold on to
Madrid
your pants sort of read with tonnes of action, excitement and great scenery along the way.  What makes Jardine so appealing is that where Stuart MacBride and Ian Rankin embrace the gritty working copper Jardine shows us the other side of policing... the side where the hero is in a position to call in favours from mysterious government
Barcelona
agencies South of the border and further afield and can influence the courts and policing in his favour.  This is Tartan Noir taken up the classes a bit whilst still having a foot
Gullane Beach
hold in the criminal dregs.  Recommended for fans of a good Police Procedural , Tartan Noir and literary
Edinburgh
tourism.
