Book reviews: With the UK General Election looming I thought a couple of Political thrillers might be just the thing!

Politics can be a very deadly business and so it's no surprise that there are a fair few crime novels written around this subject.  So, in the run up to the UK's General Election here is a trio of Political thrillers (one from the UK, one from the USA  and one set in Imperial Rome- it seems political skulduggery was all the rage even then).

Look Closer by Rachel Amphlett
In the run up to the UK General Election journalist Amy Peter's is shot whilst interviewing the Opposition leader Ian Rossiter.  As she undergoes emergency surgery Will Fletcher is drawn into a dangerous cat and mouse game and in order to survive he must interpret Amy's files on Rossiter, who it
appears is not the man the public think he is. This is exciting and fast paced with a lovely twist at the end.

Deadly Election by Lindsay Davis
It's Election time in Imperial Rome when Flavia Albia discovers a decomposing body and amid the bribery, slander and dirty tricks of those Politicians seeking high office, Flavia investigates the murder.
In Deadly Election Davis makes us breath the sultry Roman air as we immerse ourselves in a Rome long lost but never forgotten.  Deadly Election is
beautifully written and flawlessly researched.  A damn good read for fans of Historic Crime Fiction.
