Book Reviews: A round up of books for Father's Day from The Crime Warp

A round-up of books for Father's Day to suit any taste. The relationship between a father and his children is mostly beautiful... however, it can also be destructive, dehumanising and fraught with danger and lies.  The books I've chosen for Fathers Day feture the paternal relationship with there child in various forms.  All are absorbing reads and I hope you enjoy them.A father who'll go to extreme lengths to protect his child, to a father whose strange reactions to his daughter's disappearance are unsettling.

Long Time Lost by Chris Ewan (May 5th 2016)

Long Time Lost takes us on  a whirlwind trip to The Isle Of Man, Prague, Germany, Switzerland , The Lake District and Manchester. Nick Miller, bereaved husband and father lives a life beyond the law.  His mission is to keep people safe when the law cannot.  His nemesis is Connor Lane, a man determined to kill Miller at any cost.  But, Miller has secrets and in an attempt to prevent Lane from killing witness-in -hiding Kate Sutherland, his secrets may come to light.  This is a fantastic portrayal of a father who's lost everything and is prepared to do anything.  As I've come to expect from Chris Ewan, it is a dynamic, fast paced read.  I couldn't put it down.  Highly recommended.

The Silent Twin by Caroline Mitchell (14th April 2016)
I love it when genres blur together and in The Silent Twin, Caroline Mitchell successfully combines conventional policing with the paranormal.  DC Jennifer Knight is part of a paranormal police department called Operation Moonlight.  Called in to be FLO to a family whose daughter, Abigail a twin has gone missing.  Mitchell portrays the brooding psychic energy of the family home and quickly we become aware of the father, Nick's anxiety.  Clearly he loves his daughters but he and remaining twin Olivia share a secret that Knight knows she must uncover if she is to find the missing child before it is too late. Compelling, creepy and beautifully delivered.
