Book review: Dead Pretty, the most recent offering by cheeky chappy David Mark (release date 28th January 2016)

Dead Pretty opens beautifully with strong imagery that transports the reader straight to the heart of the story right from the outset, and heart is what this story is all about.

As we’ve come to expect, sensitive DI Aector McAvoy has immersed himself in the hunt for a missing girl that he fears may have been murdered.  His rapport with the girl’s family and his compassionate nature make McAvoy a welcome
change from the hardboiled detectives we see so often in crime fiction.  His innocence and the effects it has on the other character’s is refreshingly heart- warming.
The welcome return of his wife, Roisin is a huge bonus.  Her character is lively, straight talking and her disregard for authority is humorously written
His relationships with fellow officers, his boss Trish Pharaoh and his family are at the heart of this novel.  So, when DSU Pharaoh starts acting out of character and is under attack from Reuben Hollow, a wrongly convicted man who seems obsessed with her, McAvoy’s loyalties are tested.

Intriguing and beautifully executed.
