The Mistry Crime Tour through the Big Screen and into your Living Room (Late Summer)

The Mistry Crime Tour through the Big Screen and into your Living Room (Late Summer)

Well, there are two bright spots on the wee screen at the moment.
Scott and Bailey Wednesdays 9 PM ITV
Suranne Jones (Rachel Bailey),
Amelia Bullmore (Gill Murray),
Lesley Sharp (Janet Scott)
The first for me is Scott and Bailey with its’ strong female protagonists and great Northern story-lines.  The acting is superb and last week’s opener gave us a tantalising taste of a cold case to be reopened.

Interestingly Amelia Bullmore who acts as Inspector Gill Murray has written  some of the scripts for the current series'

After being at loggerheads in the last series Scott and bailey have reconciled their differences and have both earned their Sergeant’s stripes.  Bailey, as usual, demonstrates her instinctive flair for seeing outside the box whilst Scott’s methodical and probing interview technique seals the deal.  Highly recommended if you like Police Procedurals.
The characters have matured and developed believably and it's good to see Northern crime drama at the forefront.

Reese Shearsmith (Detective Stone)
and Alex Kingston (Ruth Hardway)
Chasing Shadows Thursday’s 9PM ITV
The second is a new series called Chasing Shadows and features a detective who can identify patterns of serial crimes from the Missing Person’s Files.  This is a tantalising insight into the vulnerability of Missing Persons who often live under the radar. DS Sean Stone has Asperger’s syndrome and has difficulty forming relationships and conforming to the social niceties.

I particularly like Chasing Shadows because it highlights the difficulties facing talented and skilful people who through no fault of their own don’t interact in the way most other people do.  This is a Police procedural, with less of the procedure  and more of the whatever gets me there quickest route.  I love the characters and the storylines are believable and gripping - definitely one to watch.

Before I Go To Sleep Cinema’s from Sept

In cinema’s at the moment is the much acclaimed psychological thriller Before I Go To Sleep with Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth in the lead roles.  This film is based on the book by SJ Watson and I found that it stuck quite well to original book.

Kidman as expected played the role of amnesiac Christine Lucas with sensitivity and believability, whilst Colin Firth was excellent in his role as her long suffering husband, Ben Lucas who has to repeat the same explanation to his wife every day.

Chilling close up shots, particularly of Christine as she records her diary ratcheted the tension right up and, without giving too much away, as the intrigue gripped the actors stepped up to the mark with very convincing performances.  If you’re looking for a night out Before I Go to S. would be a great choice - Well worth seeing.
