Book Review: Deserves To Die by Lisa Jackson. It’s more than the winter snow in Grizzly Fall’s Montana that’ll give you a chill.

If you like your gritty serial killer novels tempered by a sense of community spirit and romance then you’ll love Deserves To Die.

Desrves To Die  is another of Jackson’s Grizzly Falls series and builds on an already familiar community of sheriffs, cowboys, horse whisperers , psychics , alien abductees and of course a murderers.

With a mysterious woman camping out in the barren wilds in a basic cabin and at great lengths to conceal her identity and the arrival of a rough edged cowboy determined to find her the story begins.  Throw in a couple of mutilated dead women and things explode with detective Alvarez and Pescoli hot on the murderers heels.

The death of Sheriff Dan Grayson makes way for an, as yet, unproven but determined and charismatic  Sheriff Hooper  I think we can be assured of a follow up Grizzly falls novel.

Lisa Jackson
What I like most about Jackson’s writing is the way she uses setting to create ambiance.  The condition of the snowy weather has a direct effect of the emotional atmosphere of each scene.  It’s brooding intensity feels threatening whilst its fluffy flurries bode well and offer reassurance.  Her characters are well rounded and have a variety of roles in the ‘community’; Friend, Parent, Lover Officer, Confidante, Neighbour – and all of this combines to move the story along at a rate of knots.
Definitely one to curl up with as the nights begin to draw in.
