Book Review: Women Of The Dead by Bernhard Aichner... not only do we get a serial killer we want to root for, but we get a female serial killer we want to root for. This one ticks all the boxes!

Women of the Dead is a fantastic study of extremes - from the bitter sweet to the creepily sordid, from the crazy to the heart wrenching, from the sad to the happy, full of hate, full of love... but always consistently and completely enthralling.
A beautifully written novel that really gets into the psyche of the female vigilante who is serial killer, doting mother and daughter in law and loyal friend

Release Date 9th April 2015
Set in Innsbruck Austria, Woman of the Dead is a strong
emotional read.  Blum, our hero and serial killer, had a tragic upbringing but now having 'inherited' the family funeral business, married to police oficer Mark with two gorgeous children a doting father in law and a loyal funeral assistant she is happy and free from her troubled past.  Then er husband is killed
and Blum discovers the beautiful Dunya's abused past and realises her husband was murdered to prevent him revealing the perpetrators of Dunya's abuse.  Filled with grief, Blum begins to exact her revenge.

What made Women of the Dead stand out for me was the effortless way Aichner surrounds the reader in the entirety of Blum's life.  We come to know her so well that we relate to her rage and grief and, almost without realizing it,  we're suddenly rooting for her.
I certainly hope that we hear more from this promising young Austrian author.
