Book Review: The Girl In The Ice by Robert Bryndza

DCI Ericka Foster is recovering from a personal tragedy resulting in the death of her husband, a fellow officer, in the line of duty.  Foster is brought in to head up a high profile investigation into the death of Sir Simon Douglas’s daughter Andrea Douglas-Brown.

The Girl In the Ice involves a complex investigation that is exacarbated by the pressure exerted on the officers by VIP’s.  The dogged perseverance of an incorruptible, yet vulnerable, officer makes links between previously unsolved cases and the current investigation.  Thwarted at every turn, Foster and her two sidekicks refuse to fall to pressure from above.  If you enjoy apolice procedurals with strong investigators then Girl In The Ice is for you.
Whilst having a compelling storyline and admirable characters, The Girl In The Ice would benefit from a little more attention to the detail of the police procedural, in terms of the roles of the different grades of officer.  This, however for me, was a very minor irritant, more than made up for by the fast moving plot and attention to character development
