I make no
secret of the fact that I’m a huge fan of Stuart MacBride's books (both the Ash
Henderson series and the Logan Macrae series) and his latest offering The
Missing and The Dead is brill!
The dynamic duo that are Logan Macrae and Roberta Steele are as entertaining, likeable and comical as ever!

After,
bending the rules to rescuing the nearly dead victim of a psychopathic abductor
and capturing the perpetrator Logan Macrae
Scottish divisional takes a sideways move back into uniform and Scottish
divisional policing based in Banff and MacBride, I think captures the beauty of this beautiful area of Scotland.
When the case against the abductor falls it seems to signal the beginning of the end for Macrae’s police career.

Meanwhile
crotch scratching Roberta Steele descends on Banff as head of the MIT( Major
Investigation Team) to take over the case of a murdered child found in
Banff. Macrae finds himself juggling
Steele’s insistent (often hilarious) demands with managing short staffed teams, waging war on
drugs and tip toeing around non- uniform police and superior officers out to
discredit him.
The Missing
and the Dead, as well as being a damn good read is a brilliant study of the impact of the changes to Police Scotland on
the investigation and deterrence of crime at all levels. As usual MacBride blends gritty Scottish
humour with sensitivity and satire.
Definitely up
to his usual standard- don’t miss it!
The only word of caution- if you’re buying with the aim of reading whilst commuting BUY THE KINDLE version- It’s an epic read!
