Book Review: Vanishing Point by Danielle Ramsay

Vanishing Point by Danielle Ramsay

This is Ramsey’s second book set in the small North Eastern English town of Whitley Bay.  In Vanishing point Ramsay creates a fast paced and exciting story around the discovery of a headless woman who has been seriously sexually abused and the co-incidental placing of a severely disfigured undercover Police Officer in the toilets of a club owned by a local dodgy business man.
It soon becomes clear that a violent sex trade from Eastern Europe has made its way to Whitley Bay leaving DI Jack Brady (ex lover of the maimed police officer) to amass information from his ex wife who works to combat the sex industry.  Meanwhile his renegade brother (of whom his colleagues are ignorant) appears to be involved somehow and Brady is left to work the crime with an understaffed and under budgeted team, whilst being on the brunt of distrust and animosity from other officers.
In D I Brady, Ramsay has created a flawed yet believable character, whose back story makes it easy to understand his conviction that following the letter of the law isn’t always the best way to get the results.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will definitely be catching up on the rest of the Jack Brady series.
Also, look out for some useful writing tips from the author herself at the end of the book.
