It gives me great pleasure to welcome Dave Sivers's DCI Lizzie Archer to the dock. let's see how well she fares under pressure when grilled on The Crime Warp ...

Lizzie grew up in London. Her dad was a police officer,
which she supposed influenced her
own decision to join the police. She rose to
the rank of DI and was identified as a potential high flyer at the Met until an
arrest that went wrong left her facially disfigured, wrecking her
self-confidence and her personal life, and stalling her career. She transferred
to Thames Valley and Buckinghamshire’s Aylesbury Vale hoping to rebuild in what
she expected to be a bit of a sleepy hollow. It hasn’t quite worked out that
way.
The
Fields of Wheat moment… What is the most rebellious thing Lizzie has
ever done?
She’s not an especially rebellious type, but has more than
once carried on pursuing a line of enquiry her boss has expressly told her to
leave alone.
Which 3 items would Lizzie bring to a desert island … and why?
The first two are her makeup and her hair care kit. She’s
not vain, but disguising and concealing her scar are a self-presentation thing
for her. Since a professional makeup artist showed her how, it’s been a major
factor in restoring her self-esteem. She couldn’t imagine being rescued
without.
Item three is a coffee machine and an endless supply of
quality coffee. It’s the one thing she’s really fussy about and she likes it
strong, black and unsweetened.
The
Nitty Gritty: The Big Reveal
What
or who does Lizzie love most?
It’s a close run thing between her next door neighbour and
partner Dominic, and Barney, the fat ginger tomcat they share. Dominic probably
has the edge.
Is Lizzie a secret romantic?
Not exactly, but she lost the man she expected to marry
after her injury in the line of duty and then spent a long time longing for
someone who would see past the scar and love her for herself, whilst at the
same time being attracted to the wrong kind of man. In Dominic, she’s found
someone she can relax with and let her guard down.
Does Lizzie have regrets?
Lizzie regrets allowing her job to get in the way too many
times when her mother was dying, and she regrets that, until quite recently, it
caused a massive rift between her and her brother, who felt he shouldered the
burden of their mother’s care and the aftermath of her death alone.
In
five words describe…
Her office
Still her old boss’s domain
Her physical appearance
Tall, slim, blonde, attractive, conservative
All of her favourite things …
What is Lizzie's favourite:
Holiday
destination She’d love to go to Venice.
Band/singer
LeeAnn Rimes, mostly because she loves the film ‘Coyote Ugly’, which has
several of her songs in its soundtrack.
Drink/beverage As
well as good coffee, she enjoys a beer and will happily drink pints.
Type
of clothes Casual, like a shirt and jeans.
Artist Marc Chagall.
Would
your character rather…
Eat a
doughnut or a muffin
She’s rather partial to a muffin.
Use a
gun or their bare hands
She hates guns, but is good at self defence, so bare hands
for sure.
Car
chase or shoot out
Such a hard choice: fast driving makes her nervous but, as
mentioned, she hates guns. Probably a car chase, provided someone else was
driving and she could close her eyes.

A rainy night in Buckinghamshire. A vicious homophobic attack in the centre of Aylesbury sees the start of a new investigation for detectives Lizzie Archer and Dan Baines. As they search for answers, another woman is found left for dead, her partner missing – and this time the victims are closer to home for the team.
Amid a desperate race to find the missing woman, Baines finds himself once again confronted by the demons he hoped he was finally putting behind him. It’s a distraction that could cost him his sanity – and a friend her life.
The latest in the popular Archer and Baines series, perfect for fans of Val McDermid and Peter Robinson.
books include the popular crime fiction series featuring the Aylesbury Vale detectives, DI Lizzie Archer and DS Dan Baines.
