Someone is Watching by Joy Fielding, Book Review

I reckon people fall into two categories, those who like being watched, the centre of attention seekers, and those who prefer to observe, preferably from the side-lines. But if someone is stalking you and you are not sure of their intent, then it gets really creepy, terrifying in fact. What if you’re not sure if someone is watching? What if you think you are paranoid?

If you are your happy contented self, then it would take more than a suspicion that someone is watching you, to rattle your cage. But what if you’d suffered a horrendous rape and you’d lost all your confidence? How much would it take to unsettle you?  What if you didn’t know who the rapist was and it could be any one of the men you dealt with in your daily life?
Joy Fielding constructs a suspenseful plot by ratcheting up the tension gradually, bit by bit. Her heroine, Bailey Carpenter, is an investigator for a law firm, and so the watcher becomes the watched and gradually she unravels. Afraid to leave her apartment after her horrendous attack, she waits for the police to make an arrest. But when the police make no head-way with her case, she must take action herself to save herself, physically and mentally. What is more terrifying, the thought of being murdered or of losing your sanity? Someone is Watching is a first class psychological thriller.
