Bloody Scotland: The Crime Warp's Top 5 Bloodiest Tips for Bloody Scotland

Well, it's nearly time to take the high road to Scotland (Stirling to be precise) for this year's Bloody Scotland Crime Writing Festival which takes place from Friday 9th Sept to Sunday 11th September. I have found it very difficult to make my Top 5 Tips because Bloody Scotland has delivered a belter of a programme.  Diverse and uniquely balanced there is sure to be something for every crime writer/reader's taste.  So, The Crime Warp has perused the programme and come up with our top 5 tips for the weekend.  Read on for more...

 Stuart MacBride and Caro Ramsay

Friday 9 September from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
With two of my favourite Tartan Noir novelists in conversation this will prove to be a fantastic panel.  Stuart MacBride's Roberta Steel & Logan McCrae series are full of dark humour and Caro Ramsay's Anderson & Costello novels never cease to thrill.  I'll see you there!!!

Talking to the Dead

Saturday 10 September from 10:30 am - 11:30 am
Forensics is so interesting but combine it with the loveable Dr James Grieve and you're guaranteed a riveting panel.  Grieves and Turner in my mind are the forensic worlsd answer to Starsky and Hutch and the panel will be ably chaired by Alex Gray (another darling of Scottich crime fiction) whose character Rosie Fergusson is based on Dr Marjorie  Turner herself.  Be prepared for laughter, gruesome detail and an enjoyable friendly hour.

M.C. Beaton with Fred MacAulay

Saturday 10 September from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
The creator of Scotland's very own Hamish MacBeth, the entertaining M.C. Beaton will be in conversation with comedian and crime fiction fanatic Fred MacAuley.  This should prove to be a dynamic and amusing panel.

Into the Dark: James Oswald, Malcolm Mackay and Craig Robertson

Sunday 11 September from 11:45 am - 12:45 pm
From Glasgow ganglands to psychic detectives to serial
killer memorabilia, you will truly be transported into the dark world of crime fiction in the company of James Oswald (The Damage done), Malcolm Mackay (For Those Who Know the Ending) andCraig Robertson (DCI Rachel Narey).  This gritty trio will explore all that is dark in the world of crime fiction.

Northern Lights

Sunday 11 September from 3:15 pm - 4:15 pm
This amazing panel from Iceland, Norway and Sweden I think Bloody Scotland's more or less got the Nordic nations covered.
With Iceland's chillingly thrilling Yrsa Sigurgardóttir, Norway's new comer Agnes Ravatn and Swedish punk rock musicians Jerker Eriksson and Hakan Axlander Sundquist who perform as Erik Axl Sund these Northern Lights look set to chill your heart.
