Book Review; Prey by James Carol ask yourself this question - Can Jefferson Winter books get any better?... and the answer is YES!- they just did!

In Prey, the third of James Carol’s Jefferson Winter books the action starts from the get go and never really stops.  I read this in one compulsive sitting (much to the annoyance of my husband who wanted to go to the pub) and was hooked from the minute Winter walked into a cafĂ© and saw a mysterious women sitting in the corner.  When she stabbed the chef in the eye before she escapes leaving an old newspaper headlining a double murder from six years previously, just to get Winter’s attention, I knew I was in for the long haul.

In Prey, we’re never really sure who the Prey is – it could be the victims but equally it could be Winter or indeed the psychopath he hunts.  Desperate to snare this killer before she strikes again Winter enlists the help of sceptical colleague Detective Mendoza and retraces the steps of the double murder.  What he discovers is mind blowing!
In Winter, Carol has created a complex, highly intelligent, completely endearing character whose vulnerabilities make him all the more human.  Carol, is skilled at dropping in believable profiling analysis that authenticates Winter’s credentials as an ex FBI behavioural analyst.
I can’t see how anyone wouldn’t enjoy Prey because it’s well written, exciting and believable.  A must read for fans of Chris Carter, MJ Alridge and great crime fiction.

By the way… I loved the book cover – simple but there is something very chilling about a ballerina doll on the front of a crime fiction novel- you know things will get evilly bad before they get better!
You can buy Prey on kindle for £1.19 or in PB for £2
