Look out for these! Hot picks for June 2013 – all available now, with something for all the family!

My daughter Helencrimeblogger has just gone on holiday and was asking me about some books to take.  You’ll guess that I had lots of suggestions!  As it’s that holiday season, I thought I’d highlight three books that are already out so you can just drop them into your holiday bag without having to wait for them to arrive in the shops.  For the first time I’ve also highlighted a Young Adult book, so there’s something for all the family in the June pick.  Happy holiday reading!

The Outsiders by Gerald Seymour
Seymour’s book is a cleverly painted picture of organised criminals consolidating their wealth and power, whilst their opponents in the Organised Crime group, The Graveyard Team, are under resourced and increasingly unable to stop them.  The team’s boss, Winnie Monks has waited for a long time to take revenge for the brutal murder of her friend and colleague Damian Fenby.  Monks has finally tracked down the man responsible and put together a new team to watch the mobster’s property in Spain.  All looks straightforward until the team find the house they want to use as their base is occupied by Jonno and Posie, young house sitters, who are just looking forward to a holiday in the sun.  These two worlds collide as Winnie is determined to execute her plan and get her long waited for revenge.

Deadly Deceit by Mari Hannah
This is the third book in Mari Hannahs’ series featuring DCI Kate Daniels.  The book starts with two seemingly unconnected plot lines – a house fire that leaves a father and his young child dead, then an appalling pile up on the A1.  Daniels and her sidekick DS Hank Gormley soon find that one of the roadside deaths is not what it seems and that the two cases are in fact connected.  As they join the dots, they find a ruthless killer luring in the background – someone who is clever and resourceful, with a knack of staying invisible and one step ahead of the Police, which makes Daniels’ and Gormley’s job harder than ever.

Young Adult book - Theodore Boone, The Activist – John Grisham
Grisham is known best for his adult novels but the Theodore Boone series has something quite appealing about it.  The central character is thirteen year old Theodore who hs a knack of making justice prevail despite his young age.  In this novel, he supports his friend Hardie Quinn whose home is soon to be bulldozed to make way for a new road.  As Boone joins a campaign to stop the road, he finds out about the secrets and corruption behind the men who want to build the road.  The question for Boone is can he stay on the right side of the law as he tries to stop them?

I’ll be back in July with more hot picks, meantime, happy reading and please do leave your comments about these books on the blog.
