Young Adult Book Review: This Lie Will Kill You by Chelsea Pitcher

Image
Available here You know I have a bit of a penchant for Young Adult/New Adult crime fiction and recently I've been indulging myself. One of the books I've devoured over the past few months was This Lie Will Kill You by Chelsea Pitcher. I'd never read a Pitcher novel before but will certainly be doing so now.  For all you Agatha Christie fans out there this one is a must. It's a modern US take on the locked room mystery and it is a great read.  Something very tragic happens at a party a year previously and a boy ends up dead. A year on, and things have never been the same for five young people as they struggle to come to terms with what happened at the party.  When a mysterious invite arrives each of the five end up at a secluded house to face their demons from the night when their friend died.  This YA story is so full of twists and turns it had me reeling at times. As we're taken into the mind of each of the five guests we learn more about the secrets ...

Book Review: Slow Slicing by Tony J Forder

Image
I've become a huge fan of the DI Jimmy Bliss series and all I can say is ... if you've never been slowly sliced by Jimmy Bliss, you're missing out big time. Seriously though, Forder's devious mind really takes us to dark places  in this one and certainly, Slow Slicing is one of his darkest books yet - and it's safe to say, I loved it.  Available Here Forder has the ability to temper the dark and gruesomeness of these horrific crimes by playing on the well rounded dynamics of the team he has created to support Jimmy Bliss. The interchanges between Bliss and his DS Penny 'Pen' Chandler flow really well. They are humerous, empathetic and revealing.  I hope Bliss never changes, because I love that he always has his eye on justice at whatever personal cost to himself. Forder always takes us on a roller coaster of a ride through the investigation and the twists and turns of Slow Slicing kept me away from my own writing ... Damn You Tony Fo...

Blog Tour: Book Review: This Side of Death by Andrew Barrett

Image
Chuffed to bits to be part of this Blog tour for This Side of Death by Andrew Barrett. Thanks to Rachel's Random Resources for inviting me . Don't you just love it when you get introduced to a new series that you just love? Then, it just gets better and better when you realise that there are five more books in the series. Well, that's exactly how I felt reading this one from Andy Barrett. Andy's characterisation is second to none. He nailed both the chilling serial killer Alex Sheridan , leaving my skin crawling at times. But equally, he nailed troubled, CSI Eddie Collins: Complex, sarcastic, caustic, funny and completely believable. I was totally drawn in. Then of course there's the plot ... what a bloody stonker. Talk about gobsmacked. In this novel Eddie's life is on the line and not only does he have to deal with that, but he has to deal with an assault of past memories influencing his mood, making him vulnerable. This is Yorkshire writing at its bes...
